SUMMARY:Emergency Snow Shoveler Registration Event
DESCRIPTION:Get paid to help keep New Yorkers safe after winter storms.\nEm
 ergency Snow Shovelers are called on after heavy snowfalls to remove snow 
 and ice citywide from public areas like bus stops\, crosswalks\, fire hydr
 ants\, and step streets. Last year\, more than 7\,800 of them stepped up 
 to help melt 783 million pounds of snow and cleared 135\,000 crosswalks\,
  34\,000 bus stops and 29\,000 fire hydrants.\n\nShovelers who register at
  a DSNY registration event prior to Nov. 30 will be eligible for a paid
  four-hour orientation in December\, as well as fast-tracked processing t
 o receive a paycheck within two weeks of working.\n\nThe next Brookly
 n Emergency Snow Registration Event will be Saturday\, October 3\, 9 a.m.
  to 5 p.m. at the PS 289 George V. Brower\, 900 St Marks Avenue\, Broo
 klyn\, NY 11213.\n\nAction Required Before Attending:\nVisit nyc.gov/Snow
 Employ to sign up to secure your spot for the registration event and
  to review the required documents you must bring to ensure proper reg
 istration and payment. If you do not sign up for a registration event i
 n advance\, appointments are not guaranteed.\n\nAt the registration event\
 , you will need to:\n\n\n 	Confirm you are at least 18 years old\, able to
  do heavy physical labor and eligible to work in the US\n\n\n 	Bring origi
 nal and unexpired employment authorization documents (see official I-9 Acc
 eptable Documents list)\n\n\n 	Have a Social Security Number and bring the
  physical card\n\n\nAdditional events across the five boroughs will be an
 nounced on DSNY’s @NYCsanitation social media channels and at nyc.gov/S
 nowEmploy. \n\nAfter registration\, DSNY will send a confirmation email
  with an invitation to the paid orientation. Shovelers will then be a
 ssigned to a DSNY garage to report to in the event of significant snowf
 alls\, based on borough needs and location preferences.
