The 2026 Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE) survey has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM due to the recent severe winter storm and extreme low temperatures.
During the cold weather emergency, outreach teams prioritized bringing unsheltered New Yorkers indoors. With conditions now improved, the City will proceed with the HOPE survey on the new date.
HOPE is an annual citywide effort to estimate the number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in New York City. Conducted overnight, volunteers canvass streets, subway stations, parks, and other public spaces across the five boroughs. The data collected helps inform how the City directs resources to address homelessness.
Volunteers who are able to participate on March 10 are asked to re-register at nyc.gov/hope.. Those who cannot attend on the new date are encouraged to share the opportunity with others who may be able to volunteer.
