Brooklyn Community Board 9 in partnership with Brooklyn Community Board 17 is hosting a joint Town Hall session on Monday, March 18, 2024, starting at 7PM, at the High School for Public Service (auditorium) located 600 Kingston Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11203 to discuss the possible closure of SUNY Downstate.

The SUNY Downstate hospital building is currently struggling with enormous facility challenges and a huge budget deficit. In response, SUNY is developing a plan for a stronger Downstate that will enhance the health sciences university, preserve inpatient services in partnership with other hospitals, expand outpatient services to better meet community needs, and address healthcare disparities.

The Town Hall is to hear from leaders who are leading the charge to save the hospital from closure and to hear sentiments from the public on how they feel about the SUNY Downstate Transformation Plan, if any.
