Free one-on-one business advisory sessions through a partnership with Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn and the Pace University Small Business Development Center. Sessions take place every fourth Thursday by appointment at the Assemblymember's District Office and can help with financing, marketing and sales strategies, government procurement and certification programs, and business planning.

The Flatbush Literacy Zone Welcome Center is a local hub offering free educational, workforce, and support services for individuals and families. Services include adult literacy and High School Equivalency preparation, college and career readiness, job training, digital literacy, and connections to social and community resources. All services are free and open to the public, with hours available throughout the week at the Flatbush Library.

Brooklyn NY Connects provides information and assistance on long-term services and supports for people of all ages, individuals with any disability, caregivers, family members, veterans, and helping professionals. Services include personal care, education and counseling, health and wellness, behavioral health, intellectual and developmental disability supports, and other social services. Walk-ins and appointments are available Monday–Thursday, 9 AM–5 PM, and appointments only on Fridays.
Community Food Connection (CFC), formerly known as the Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP), provides funding to more than 500 community kitchens and food pantries citywide. If you need food, you can get help today at one of New York City's food pantries, which provide groceries to cook at home, or community kitchens, which provide hot meals.
This six-week program provides hands-on training in kitchen fundamentals, knife skills, baking, food safety, and sanitation. Participants also gain professional readiness skills, resume and interview prep, and support to take the NYC Food Protection Exam for lifetime certification. Graduates are connected to food industry jobs with employers such as Restaurant Associates @ Google, Eataly, Whole Foods, and Amy’s Bread. Average starting wage is $18.38/hour, with access to benefits and set schedules. Participants receive a $160 weekly stipend for five weeks, daily Metrocards, and job placement support through our employer network. Applicants must complete a short form and interview before enrollment. Available for Spanish speakers.

Brooklyn residents and K–12 students are invited to submit designs for the 2026 Brooklyn Pin, a limited-edition collectible celebrating the borough’s culture and identity. All ages are welcome; minors need parental consent. The winning design will be selected by the Borough President and 2025 Brooklyn Arts Ambassador Colm Dillane of KidSuper. Emergency Snow Shovelers are needed to clear snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, hydrants, and step streets after major snowfalls, on a per-diem, temporary basis. Positions pay $19.14 per hour to start and $28.71 after 40 hours in a week. Applicants must be 18 or older, eligible to work in the U.S., and able to perform heavy labor. Use the link to register.

CAMBA LGBTQ+ Education and Acceptance Project (LEAP) is offering a free eight-week filmmaking and editing program for youth ages 15–20 living or studying in Brooklyn or Queens. The program runs from October 4 to November 22, 2025, with sessions held Saturdays from 12:00–5:00 PM at the Brooklyn Community Pride Center (1561 Bedford Avenue). Participants will receive production credits, a $20 gift card incentive per session (up to $160 total), MetroCards for travel, and an additional gift card for successful referrals.

Leadership and College Readiness program, which educates, empowers, and exposes young men of color, grades 9 through 12 from schools in Brooklyn to the skills, tools, behaviors, and role models necessary for success in life, leadership, and college. The goal of this program is to develop emotionally intelligent leaders by focusing on three levels of development: the individual, the individual in relation to others, and the individual in relation to society as a whole. Particular emphasis will be placed on Academic Excellence, Goal Setting, Personal Development, Professional Development, Etiquette, and Health and Wellbeing. Alpha Academy will discuss the College Admissions process, tips for a strong application, and how to utilize valuable resources when making the transition from high school to college. The program will run during the 2025-2026 school year, meeting in person one Saturday per month from 10 AM–1 PM, and periodic virtual sessions. There will also be occasional recreational activities and field trips. Permission forms will be provided.

PureLegacee is accepting applications for its 16-week Mentor Training Program, beginning October 14, 2025. This free program is open to young women ages 17–24. Participants receive mentorship training, trauma-informed coaching, life skills workshops, educational outings, and networking opportunities. Graduates are matched with mentees through Operation Crown Adjusters, PureLegacee’s Big Sister, Little Sister program, creating a cycle of empowerment for young women in Brooklyn. Program participants are given a stipend.

The Local Center is seeking mission-driven lighting design teams to support community organizations, including Church Flatbush Community Alliance (CFCA), in transforming their commercial corridors through creative lighting and public realm projects. In Flatbush, CFCA will activate the intersection of Church Avenue and East 18th Street with creative lighting and programming to improve safety and increase foot traffic around a major transportation hub. Other projects are located in Bed-Stuy (BK) and Tomkinsville (SI). These projects offer design teams the opportunity to contribute to meaningful neighborhood work, collaborate with community leaders, and receive a service fee.

Brooklyn Workforce1 Employment Works supports individuals who have engaged with the criminal justice system by providing tailored services at both our Bronx and Brooklyn Workforce1 Career Centers. Services include job/interview coaching, career exploration, résumé review, referrals for professional attire and benefits, direct referrals to job interviews, resources to seal conviction records, post-placement follow-up to promote retention and growth, career advisement, preparation workshops, and more. These services help candidates succeed beyond barriers to work that are common for individuals with a criminal justice history.

High school students passionate about Brooklyn can apply to join the Brooklyn Borough President’s Youth Advisory Council. Selected participants will meet twice a month, virtually and/or in person, with peers, city leaders, and staff to discuss youth issues, propose policy and program recommendations, and lead a service-learning project. Open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in NYC public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year. Applicants must provide one adult reference.

Five emerging Brooklyn-based fashion designers will be selected to present five complete looks at a full-service fashion show at Brooklyn Borough Hall this fall. Each selected designer will receive a $5,000 grant and mentorship opportunities with Colm Dillane of KidSuper. Applicants must be Brooklyn residents age 18 or older.

Adults 18 and older can earn their high school diploma through free GED classes at COJO Flatbush. The program offers flexible scheduling with morning, evening, and Sunday classes; small class sizes; and supportive instructors. A Regents credit transfer option is available for those who qualify. All learning materials, including books and practice tests, are provided at no cost. Participants will also receive guidance on workforce and college readiness, job preparation, and college applications. Whether you're aiming for a better job or fulfilling a personal goal, this program helps adult learners succeed in a welcoming environment. A pre-assessment is required prior to enrollment.

NYC OEM invites high school students to apply this free summer program for women and non-binary youth ages 16–22 who are interested in emergency management and leadership. Held July 14–18, 2025, at NYCEM’s Brooklyn headquarters, the program features workshops, simulations, field trips, and mentorship. Selected participants may also join monthly “aftermath” sessions after the main program. HERricane NYC is inclusive of cisgender and transgender women and non-binary people. From May 19 through June 30, 2025, New Yorkers can call 311 to request a free, no-penalty inspection from the NYC Department of Buildings. This program is open to small homeowners and business owners seeking expert analysis of building features and equipment such as decks, patios, retaining walls, facades in buildings under six stories, business signs, unregistered boilers, and unregistered private elevator devices. During the inspection, agency inspectors will identify any safety concerns or Code issues and offer guidance for making necessary repairs without issuing penalties. This project was launched in 2005 and aims to help property owners maintain safe buildings while avoiding fines.
