The Brooklyn Borough President’s Office is accepting applications from individuals who would like to become community board members. The deadline to apply is 11 PM on February 14, 2025.
Community boards are a vital part of New York City’s local government, serving as the grassroots connection between neighborhoods and city decision-makers. Brooklyn, with its 18 community districts, has the largest number of community boards among the five boroughs. These boards are composed of individuals who are passionate about their communities’ well-being.
Appointed by the Brooklyn Borough President, community board members collaborate with city agencies, elected officials, and local leaders to represent their neighborhood’s perspectives and priorities. Their work spans a wide range of issues, including housing development, public transit, the city’s budget, and essential services like sanitation.
From now until February 14, 2025, at 11 PM, New York City residents aged 16 and older can apply to join their Brooklyn community board. Each board’s focus is shaped by the dedication and vision of its members, making community participation essential to ensuring that local voices are heard.
