The Unitree:
“The Winter Solstice, when the Earth reaches the farthest point in its orbit from the Sun, brings the longest night and the shortest day of the year. Across the world, cultures respond to this period of deep darkness by illuminating their surroundings with lights and exchanging gifts. It is a moment to open our doors and welcome neighbors, friends, and family into the warmth of our homes— a time to celebrate unity and togetherness.
The Unitree takes its name from the first principle of Kwanzaa: Umoja, meaning ‘Unity’. Traditions such as Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah, Persian Shab-e Yalda, Buddhist Bodhi Day, and the Indigenous Lenape Lowan all honor the spirit of gathering and shared humanity. Trees appear again and again in these celebrations, symbolizing life, resilience, and vitality throughout the cold winter months.”
