NYC DOT Art is seeking proposals for artwork to activate the Summer Street routes as a one-day installation throughout all five Summer Street dates. Selected artists may receive up to $20,000 to cover all expenses to design, fabricate, present the artwork including, but not limited to, costs associated with the following: labor, materials, fabrication, engineering, installation, equipment rental, storage, and transportation. Artists may consider an additive format with components created through public participation, allowing the artwork to shift, grow, and evolve throughout each event date and the event series. The She Built NYC program seeks artists to create public monuments honoring remarkable women in all five boroughs. Honorees include civil rights pioneer Elizabeth Jennings Graham in Manhattan, legendary Billie Holiday in Queens, Dr. Helen Rodríguez Trías in the Bronx, and Katherine Walker on Staten Island. A monument for Shirley Chisholm is already underway in Brooklyn. Artists interested in this opportunity can submit samples of past work and supplementary materials to be considered through the City’s Percent for Art commissioning process.
