The Flatbush Literacy Zone Welcome Center is a local hub offering free educational, workforce, and support services for individuals and families. Services include adult literacy and High School Equivalency preparation, college and career readiness, job training, digital literacy, and connections to social and community resources. All services are free and open to the public, with hours available throughout the week at the Flatbush Library.

Leadership and College Readiness program, which educates, empowers, and exposes young men of color, grades 9 through 12 from schools in Brooklyn to the skills, tools, behaviors, and role models necessary for success in life, leadership, and college. The goal of this program is to develop emotionally intelligent leaders by focusing on three levels of development: the individual, the individual in relation to others, and the individual in relation to society as a whole. Particular emphasis will be placed on Academic Excellence, Goal Setting, Personal Development, Professional Development, Etiquette, and Health and Wellbeing. Alpha Academy will discuss the College Admissions process, tips for a strong application, and how to utilize valuable resources when making the transition from high school to college. The program will run during the 2025-2026 school year, meeting in person one Saturday per month from 10 AM–1 PM, and periodic virtual sessions. There will also be occasional recreational activities and field trips. Permission forms will be provided.
Deadline: Completed applications must be submitted no later than September 24, 2025

Adults 18 and older can earn their high school diploma through free GED classes at COJO Flatbush. The program offers flexible scheduling with morning, evening, and Sunday classes; small class sizes; and supportive instructors. A Regents credit transfer option is available for those who qualify. All learning materials, including books and practice tests, are provided at no cost. Participants will also receive guidance on workforce and college readiness, job preparation, and college applications. Whether you're aiming for a better job or fulfilling a personal goal, this program helps adult learners succeed in a welcoming environment. A pre-assessment is required prior to enrollment.
