The NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs offers free beginner and intermediate English classes at over 60 centers across the five boroughs. Classes are open to all immigrant New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status or existing English ability. Participants receive practice materials, learn about immigrant rights and resources, and enjoy a welcoming community where they can safely practice English. Through award-winning We Speak NYC episodes, learners also explore city services, civic engagement, and much more.

Applicants must attend high school in Brooklyn and provide a one-page résumé, the latest transcript, working papers, and a personal essay. The application deadline is January 17, 2025. The Doula Program’s mission is to minimize the isolation and loneliness of people with life-limiting illnesses. This program trains, carefully matches, and supervises Doula Volunteers who provide support to individuals in their homes, healthcare facilities, and hospitals. These volunteers build meaningful relationships that often last weeks, months, or even years. Many volunteers find their own lives enriched through these connections. The Doula Volunteer training, led by professional staff with expertise in end-of-life care, is completed over an eight-week period.
