Call for Design and Lighting Teams 2025

The Local Center is seeking mission-driven lighting design teams to support community organizations, including Church Flatbush Community Alliance (CFCA), in transforming their commercial corridors through creative lighting and public realm projects. In Flatbush, CFCA will activate the intersection of Church Avenue and East 18th Street with creative lighting and programming to improve safety and increase foot traffic around a major transportation hub. Other projects are located in Bed-Stuy (BK) and Tomkinsville (SI). These projects offer design teams the opportunity to contribute to meaningful neighborhood work, collaborate with community leaders, and receive a service fee.

Employment Works for Justice-Involved Jobseekers

Brooklyn Workforce1 Employment Works supports individuals who have engaged with the criminal justice system by providing tailored services at both our Bronx and Brooklyn Workforce1 Career Centers. Services include job/interview coaching, career exploration, résumé review, referrals for professional attire and benefits, direct referrals to job interviews, resources to seal conviction records, post-placement follow-up to promote retention and growth, career advisement, preparation workshops, and more. These services help candidates succeed beyond barriers to work that are common for individuals with a criminal justice history.

Free GED Classes for Adults

Adults 18 and older can earn their high school diploma through free GED classes at COJO Flatbush. The program offers flexible scheduling with morning, evening, and Sunday classes; small class sizes; and supportive instructors. A Regents credit transfer option is available for those who qualify. All learning materials, including books and practice tests, are provided at no cost. Participants will also receive guidance on workforce and college readiness, job preparation, and college applications. Whether you’re aiming for a better job or fulfilling a personal goal, this program helps adult learners succeed in a welcoming environment. A pre-assessment is required prior to enrollment.

Brooklyn Youth Advisory Council – 2025–2026 School Year

High school students passionate about Brooklyn can apply to join the Brooklyn Borough President’s Youth Advisory Council. Selected participants will meet twice a month, virtually and/or in person, with peers, city leaders, and staff to discuss youth issues, propose policy and program recommendations, and lead a service-learning project. Open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in NYC public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year. Applicants must provide one adult reference.
