The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for New York City from Tuesday, May 19, at 11 AM through Wednesday, May 20, at 8 PM. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values up to 96 degrees. Air quality may also be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Cooling centers will be open across the five boroughs. To find the nearest location, including accessible and pet-friendly sites, call 311 or use the City’s Cool Options Finder. Service animals are always permitted.
New Yorkers are encouraged to seek air-conditioned spaces, stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and take regular breaks if outside. Residents should also check in on older adults, people with chronic health conditions, and others who may be more vulnerable during extreme heat.
